Course Overview

Intellegi’s Spanish Immersion Flagship Course for healthcare professionals and first responders is a 5-week introduction to conversational Spanish and focuses on four key areas of language acquisition: listening, speaking, reading and writing within the healthcare context. Intellegi’s unique course structure also incorporates social-emotional and metacognitive skills into all its classes.

Why This Course?

This course is born out of untold stories of communication barriers that caused extreme, but avoidable suffering during a pandemic that gripped and changed the world forever. As part of the course, learners will be provided opportunities to listen to and speak Spanish while they work towards becoming linguistically and culturally literate, as well as increase active listening skills to promote social awareness.

Learning Outcomes

To create Immediate trust bond between patients and healthcare providers and prevent messages from being lost in translation to avoid costly mistakes such misdiagnosis, timely life-saving decisions, impact and improve health outcomes.

Transforming how learning is delivered and consumed

This live and immersive course includes a broad series of case-based scenarios, weekly lessons and cross-cultural activities taught in a Virtual Reality (VR) environment. Each module contains a series of lessons that include introduction of parent engagement content, classroom role-play scenarios and opportunities to practice with colleagues. Learners will receive helpful feedback and formative assessment throughout as well as at the end of the course.

Why Learning in VR Matters

Learning in a VR environment is gaining traction in education for good reasons. Interacting in the virtual world bridges the equity gaps among healthcare professionals and patients and facilitates social and collaborative learning, as the group transports themselves as virtual characters into the same virtual world. As the healthcare professional guides patients through experiences, they all get a sense of being in the same room. VR also promotes learning by doing. As healthcare professionals make decisions in VR as they would in the real world, they activate the same neural pathways in the brain.
